The St. Croix Sheriff’s Department is investigating a report of counterfeit $100 bills being passed at a local business.
Sheriff Dennis Hillstead said a local bank was processing a recent deposit when a special machine that the bills are fed into indicated the money was fake.
The bills came in a deposit from St. Croix Harley Davidson in New Richmond.
Hillstead said his department is watching surveillance tape from the business to try and determine who may have presented the fake money.
