Fire prevention open house Oct 13 in New Richmond

The New Richmond Fire Department will again be hosting its annual Fire Prevention Open House. The date is set for Oct. 13 at the fire station.

From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. the firefighters will be providing “fire truck rides” for kids of all ages – including adults who would like to ride as well.

The only catch is that if you really want to ride in a fire truck, you must bring something for the New Richmond Food Shelf. Anything you can donate will get you a free pass to the most fantastic ride of your life, at the same time providing something for our community that is truly needed.

Homeowners, if you have a personal fire extinguisher that hasn’t been checked in over a year, Industrial Safety will be providing free fire extinguisher checks and re-charges.

Firefighters will be on hand to answer any questions residents may have about fire safety, firefighting and the fire department. The fire department will also have cookies and refreshments available.

Oct. 8, 1871 marks the date of the “Great Chicago Fire” and the “Peshtigo Fire” (Wis.). Thousands of people lost their lives and property and to this day both fires remain the greatest loss of life. That is why the week of Oct. 8 is dedicated to fire prevention. Children need to learn about fire safety and adults need to be reminded as well.

Come and join the activities at the fire station on Oct. 13. Kids, moms and dads, and anyone you can bring with you will benefit in some way from this event.

“Sparky” has been invited to help the firefighters get their message out about being “fire safe” and entertain the crowd.
