An early Wednesday morning crash has claimed the life of a Houlton, Wis. man
The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office responded to a one-vehicle crash at 12:22 a.m. Dec. 3 at the intersection of County Road V and River Road in the Town of St. Joseph.
A 1996 Ford Explorer, driven by Michael Lee Deckard, 21, Houlton, was westbound on River Road and failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle left the road and entered the ditch. The vehicle struck a guide wire near a power pole. The vehicle then went over County Road V and entered the north ditch, struck a fence and overturned.
Deckard was ejected from the vehicle, as he was not wearing a seatbelt. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix Medical Examiner.
Assisting at the scene was the North Hudson Police Department, St. Joseph Fire and First Responders along with Lakeview EMS.
This is the 11th fatality of 2008 in the county. The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office.
