A 33-year-old man died while he held police at bay for five and one-half hours at a home in Fredonia, north of Milwaukee.

Ozaukee County authorities said the man confronted his wife about their failed marriage.

He then poured gas on a basement floor, started a fire, held up a shotgun and threatened his wife and himself.

The woman managed to flee the house as witnesses saw smoke emerge.

She called 911 about 3:30 p.m.

Northern Ozaukee High School, which is the near the house, went into a lockdown mode. The lockdown lasted about two hours but the man kept refusing to surrender.

Finally, officers pressed the matter. They reportedly found the man dead about 9 p.m.
