Most St. Croix County administrators and managers won’t get a salary raise in 2009. Instead 157 of them will each get a flat $520 lump sum.
The 2008 salary grid will carry over to 2009.
The lump sum payment will go to those who are at step 7, the top of their pay grade. The 21 employees who aren’t at the top of their pay grades, will get their scheduled step increase.
As finance committee members struggled to prepare a balanced 2009 budget and asked departments to look for every spending cut they could find, the issue of pay increases came up. But a month before the budget was due for adoption the issue of raises for non-union workers still hadn’t been dealt with.
When the budget was adopted in November, the County Board set aside money for the payments, but still didn’t decide how the money would be paid out.
The resolution adopted Dec. 16 says $520 will be paid in a lump sum to each permanent full-time or part-time non-union employee who has reached step 7 by Dec. 31, 2008.
The highest paid in this employee group is the administrative coordinator who makes about $115,000 a year. Salaries for other non-union administrators range from about $96,000 to around $60,000 a year.
