Oscar “Ocie” Olien, age 78 of New Richmond, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

Oscar “Ocie” Olien, age 78 of New Richmond, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 8, 2009.

Oscar was born the son of Oscar W. and Ida (Stromen) Olien on May 19, 1930 in New Richmond. He attended New Richmond High School graduating with the class of 1948. Oscar went to work as a mechanic in his father’s garage.

On Feb. 3, 1951, he was married to Margaret “Peg” Clark in the Hospital Chapel in New Richmond. Oscar served in the National Guard as the mechanic for the motorpool. He worked as a bowling machine mechanic for many years and later worked for Doboy as a packaging machinery mechanic. Oscar was also a salesman of Electrolux Vacuum Cleaners for 45 years. He had a passion for cars throughout his life and loved airplanes, real ones and model airplanes.

Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar W. and Ida Olien; brothers, Marvin and Al Olien, and baby brother, Charles; and infant granddaughter, Stephanie Olien.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret “Peg” Olien; children, Linda Emery and husband, Gary of North Branch, Minn., John Olien of New Richmond, Joyce Olien of New Richmond, Tom Olien and Gretchen Hostager of Star Prairie, and Bruce Olien and Helen Broten of New Richmond; grandchildren, Kimberly Emery, Daniel Emery, Shawn (Amanda) Olien, Patrick Olien, Dana (Mark) Hood, Adam Olien and Ashley Olien; great-grandchildren, Julia Olien, Brady Olien and Thomas Hood; sisters, Martha Smith of New Richmond and Ida Fancher of Fairmont, Minn.; sister-in-law, Alta Mae Olien; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Beebe Mortuary in New Richmond. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 12, 2009 from 4-8 p.m. at Beebe Mortuary and for one hour before the service on Friday. Spring Interment will be in the New Richmond Cemetery.
