A New Richmond businessman and one-time candidate for the Osceola municipal judge position pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing child pornography March 9.

A New Richmond businessman and one-time candidate for the Osceola municipal judge position pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing child pornography March 9.

Jason M. Pape, Town of Osceola resident, admitted to the charge in U.S. district court.

Pape faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, supervised release for life and a $100 special assessment.

Under the agreement, Pape agreed to forfeit two desktop computers, one laptop computer and a thumb drive that were seized during the investigation. The computers and drives contained pornographic images of “minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.”

Because of his willingness of responsibility, Pape will receive consideration for a lighter sentence by the judge.

The New Richmond Police Department, Polk County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI worked together in the investigation of the case.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. May 15.
