Wendy Stoner of New Richmond won two state championships in the State 500 Club Bowling Tournament, held at the Thunderbird Lanes in Baraboo.
Stoner led a strong performance by a number of western Wisconsin women in the state tournament. Stoner bowls in a Tuesday night league at the New Richmond Bowling Center and a Sunday night league at Gibby’s Lanes.
Stoner earned the Division 2 singles state championship with a score of 723. She finished first among 65 bowlers in this category. Several local bowlers were placewinners in this category. Elizabeth Ziegler placed fifth with a score of 651. Theresa Bueno ranked 11th with a 631 and Mary Bentley was right behind her, with a 625 score.
Stoner was the state champion in the Division all-events category. Again she ranked first out of 65 bowlers, finishing with a total score of 1,411. Ziegler also placed in this category, taking third with a 1,358 score.
Stoner and Bueno also placed in the Division 2 doubles branch of the tournament. They took fourth among the 48 entries in the division, with a score of 1,300.
Debbie Erickson and Melissa Maple of New Richmond both placed in the Division 1 singles class. Erickson was 14th among the 75 entries with a score of 639. Maple placed 15th with a score of 636.
Trophies were distributed at the March 13 meeting of the Wisconsin 500 Club in Green Bay.
