An 81-year-old Clear Lake woman died Sunday afternoon when she pulled from a stop sign into the path of a pickup truck in the town of Erin Prairie.
Eunice J. Mueller was traveling north on CTH T, about five miles north of Hammond when she stopped for the stop sign at the Erin Corners intersection with CTH G about 1:52 p.m., Sunday. Mueller then pulled her 1999 Oldsmobile Bravada van from the sign and into the path of a Ford F150 driven by James Mitchell, 52, of Oakdale, Minn.
The Mueller van rolled into the northwest ditch. Mitchell's truck also struck another mini-van that was stopped at the opposite side of the intersection. That driver -- Lisa A. Nelson, 37, of New Richmond-- and Mitchell were both taken to Westfields Hospital in New Richmond for treatment of minor injuries.
Mueller was pronounced dead at the scene by a representative from the St. Croix County Medical Examiner's office. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The accident remains under investigation. New Richmond fire and ambulance personnel assisted at the scene.
Also Sunday, the St. Croix County Sheriff's Dept. reported the death of Michael A. Breeden, 47, of Hudson, who was critically injuried in a single-vehicle rollover last Monday, April 27th, in the town of Hammond. Breeden had been hospitalized at Regions in St. Paul since the accident.
The deaths are the fifth and sixth traffic fatalities in St. Croix County so far this year.
