Four informational meetings are planned during May and June on the proposed athletic building that would be added at Somerset High School.
The community presentations on the Spartan Fitness Center will be held on May 12, May 27, June 2 and June 23. Each of the presentations will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Somerset High School multi-purpose room.
Funding for this building is projected to come from donations from businesses, individuals and corporations.
The Spartan Fitness Center is a project that would provide space for weight training, cardiovascular training, speed and agility training, health and wellness training, a wrestling practice room, baseball and softball batting cages, locker rooms for girls and boys sports and storage space for high school sports.
The fitness center is designed to be 80 feet by 136 feet with 15-foot side walls and a total floor space of 10,880 square feet. The estimated cost of the project is $700,000 or $65 per square foot. This structure is designed to be built on the school campus near the west end of the Robert Seibel Memorial Football Field.
This building would free up two classrooms in the high school and one in the middle school. The existing weight room and wrestling room in the high school and the weight room in the middle school would be freed up to be additional classroom space.
Donations can be mailed to or dropped off at Anchor Bank, First National Community Bank or the Somerset School District at the high school or district office.
