Summer reading is in full swing at Roberts libraryOur Summer Reading Program is in full swing. This year, the first week, the children had to read for two hours after they received their reading log and then bring it back in to get registered. The first day we had between 35-40 families stop in to get their information. After a week and a half, we have 100 children who have already read at least two hours! I am so proud of all of you!

There is still time to come in and start your reading adventure with us this summer. Every time your child stops in to check out something, he or she is given a ticket to enter drawings. After every two hours read, they will receive a prize. When they finish the program by reading 10 hours, they also receive a book and are invited to attend the finale party with Magical Paul, a magician whose show is intended for all ages. A big thank you to the Village of Roberts and a grant from Target that helped us with our funding for the program.

This month the book club has chosen to read, “The Shack” by Wm. Paul Young. It is the story of Mackenzie Allen Philips’ youngest daughter, Missy, who has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack’s world forever.
