Fun times in Somerset Summer Reading programWe’ve been having just the best time with our Summer Reading Program. Last week Jody Lenz, owner of Threshing Table Farm near Star Prairie, led a fun, interactive program entitled “Use It Up, Wear It Out, Make It Do Or Do Without,” complete with handouts.

Among other things, we learned about making postcards out of cereal boxes. Whoever thought of that? It’s really a cute idea. She even had the tattered box the Hungry, Hungry Hippos game had came in. Normally it’s something that would be thrown out. Not in Jody’s house! She’s taking recycling to an art form. We spent a fair amount of time outside playing sidewalk chalk games and blowing bubbles. We had a great time. Thanks, Jody.
Next week we’re fortunate to have Heidi Haugen leading our program. Heidi’s led science programs other years for us and done a splendid job so we’re looking forward to seeing what inventive ideas she’ll come up with. Our written schedule shows Gordon Grice being here July 15, but remember that he helped us out by moving his “A Giraffe is Like a Jellybean” program to June 22.
How are you doing filling in your “Where the Wild Things Are,” “Oliver Twist” and “Beatles” books? Remember that you can only get them by attending the Wednesday programs and, once you fill them out and return them to us, get a coupon for a free child’s meal at Pizza Planet. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Join us from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Wednesdays through July for our Summer Reading Program and you’ll find out.
Aunt Bea, anyone? We hope you’ve stopped by at least once and discovered her hiding place as she moves about the building daily. We’ve had lots of people making a special trip just to search for her. We love it!
Keep reading everyone!
