Hammond Heartland Days is just around the corner and it’s that time again to vote for the next recipient of the Hammond Heartland Days Award.
This award is designed to recognize an individual that has been an upholding citizen, supportive and loyal to the community, shown leadership and sportsmanship, is there when needed and has been an outstanding friend or neighbor – in other words – the person with the “biggest heart.”
Boxes and ballots have been placed at the Post Office, Associated Bank, Bob and Steve’s Amoco and Holiday Station.
Please vote only once for an individual you feel is most deserving of this award. Deadline for voting will be noon, Friday, July 31.
The award will be presented during the Hammond Royalty Pageant on Thursday, Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. The recipient of this award will receive a gift, a plaque and will be spotlighted in the Grand Parade on Sunday, Aug. 9.
The recipient’s name will also be placed on the plaque displayed at Associated Bank year-round with past “biggest heart” winners. They are: 1997 – Kelly Strand, 1998 – Lindy Johnson, 1999 – Honor Hyde, 2000 – Vera Grant, 2001 – Muriel Kinne, 2002 - Harriet Meath, 2003 – Steve Miller, 2004 - Irene Burch, 2005 – Vince Tubman - 2006 – Beth Monson, 2007 - MaryAnn Bond and 2008 – Gloria Willert.
