The Hazel Mackin Community Library is hoping to drive in funds at its third annual Golf Outing, planned for Aug. 29.
The goal this year is to surpass the money raised last year -- $11,000.
“It’s even more critically important this year,” said fundraising committee member Katy Kapaun. Since groundbreaking for the new library is tentatively planned for November 2009, the money will soon be needed.
The project is about $100,000 away from their $1.5 million goal. It may have been met already if the building committee hadn’t opted for geothermal heat, Kapaun said. The heating system should save the library some money in the long run, however.
With more golfers than previous years -- 22 signed up by Aug. 13 -- and even more raffle prizes and silent auction items, this year’s Golf Outing is ready to go. Golfing will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Badlands Golf Course, 1018 80th Ave., Roberts.
Some big sponsors signed on this year, including Citizens State Bank, Roberts Lions, Roberts Grocery and C and T Siding, Kapaun said. Many other small businesses around Roberts have pitched in to help as well.
Teams of four golfers will play the 18 holes at Badlands Golf Course.
Included in their cost ($35 for members, $60 for non-members) is time at the driving range and putting green, cart rental, a continental breakfast and steak dinner.
Along with other hole challenges, there will be a marshmallow driving contest this year. Events continue after the round of golf.
A steak dinner begins at 2 p.m. for golfers and non-golfers alike. Cost is $25 for just the dinner.
There will also be a silent auction and raffle in the clubhouse. Among the prizes in the silent auction this year are an autographed Green Bay Packer football, tickets to a Vikings game, a set of men’s golf clubs and more.
Raffle prizes are abundant as well, ranging from gift certificates to hair cuts to clothing to groceries. Someone will also win an electronic subscription to the New Richmond News.
Tickets for the raffle are $5 each.
