Swap a cubicle for a day on the golf course?

Think of it as an act of patriotism.

Tee it up for the Troops is a non-profit organization created to honor and assist fallen or disabled members of the Armed Forces.

What began with one soldier’s request to help fellow soldiers and their families back in 2005, has grown to include more than 38 golf courses in 15 states. The National Day of Golf is officially recognized as Sept. 11, but a few courses will be scheduling their Tee it Up days later.

St. Croix National Golf and Event Center, 1603 32nd St. in Somerset, will sponsor their Tee it Up for the Troops event on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. A program featuring a flyover by the T-6 Texans and the American Legion will precede the round at 11 a.m. The cost for the entire day’s festivities is $99.

After the game, there will be a silent auction from 5-8 p.m. Dinner and live music by Dog Leg Left will begin at 6 p.m. The cost for just the post-golf events and dinner is $40. Contact 715-247-4200 for more information or visit www.stcroixnationalgolf.com to register.

For those people who cannot make it during the week, Bristol Ridge Golf Course, 1970 County Road C in Somerset, is holding its Tee it Up for the Troops event on Saturday, Sept. 13. The American Legion Honor Guard will assemble for a salute to the troops prior to the four person scramble tournament. Dinner will be provided afterward.

For more information about the tournament or to make a donation, call Bristol Ridge at 715-247-3673.

Proceeds of the Tee it up for the Troops events will go toward veteran services in the form of scholarships and medical assistance. For more information about the program, visit www.teeitupfo rthetroops.com.
