Open house moves indoors

Forty degree temperatures forced the Open House at the Somerset Fire Department to seek shelter inside.

The annual event invites the public to visit the Fire Hall, view the equipment and vehicles up close and talk with the firefighters. Refreshments of cinnamon rolls and cookies, along with juice, coffee and hot apple cider were offered.

For the younger folk, there was an inflatable bouncer and for those young-at-heart, an inflatable bungee run. Competitors were strapped into a vest harness attached to a rope in an inflatable run. They were to carry three bean bags and Velcro them as far along the wall as they could.

The Open House ran from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11. During that time, Captain Tim Kunze said there was a steady stream of attendees.

“This was more than I expected, with the weather,” Kunze commented.
