President Obama consoled relatives of a Fox Valley soldier whose body was returned to the U.S. Thursday.

They were at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, where the bodies of Nikolas Mueller, 26, of Little Chute and 10 others were delivered.

The soldiers were killed Monday in two helicopter crashes in Afghanistan. Mueller was the crew chief of the chopper in which seven soldiers and three government drug agents died.

Elizabeth Lahti of Appleton said Obama met privately with each of the victims’ families.

The president said he was sorry for their losses, and the country also mourned their passings. The Pentagon released the victims’ names Thursday.

It said the crash that killed Mueller happened as the chopper’s blades hit a structure, during a time of poor visibility from dust.
