After about a year of searching and organizing, River Falls-based St. Croix Valley Habitat for Humanity found a 10,000-square-foot New Richmond home for its ReStore, 901 B. N. Knowles Ave., where people can donate or buy construction- and home-related materials.

The store will serve as a regional resource to homeowners looking for materials; a means of adhering to the environmental mantra “reduce, re-use, recycle;” and the proceeds of it will support Habitat’s mission in Pierce and St. Croix Counties of “providing decent, affordable home ownership to qualified family partners.”

The ReStore just got its phone number this week: 715-246-4441.

Examples of acceptable materials include: Tools, plumbing, cabinets, working full-sized appliances, windows, flooring, tile, lumber, electrical fixtures, roof shingles, nails, screws, paint, furniture, picnic tables. Jeffrey said ReStore will not take small appliances such as toasters and blenders, clothing, computers and electronics, kitchen utensils or heavily used items.

Store organizers designated two days a week people can drop off items: 4-8 p.m. Thursdays and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays. Jeffrey said Habitat will begin taking donations this Saturday at the shipping and receiving area just south of the store location.

The St. Croix Valley Habitat for Humanity began operating in Pierce and St. Croix Counties in 1992. The organization’s many volunteers have, in partnership with homeowners, helped build nearly 40 houses

To volunteer for ReStore or to learn more about it, people can also call the SCVHFH River Falls office: 425-5623. Anyone interested to learn more about Habitat can visit the local affiliate’s Web site: www.scvhabitat.org.
