He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941 and served until 1945 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Technical Sergeant. Donald was married to Fay Hartwig on Dec. 6, 1942, at Sheppard Field in Wichita Falls, Texas. He started his business career as an accounting clerk with Doughboy Industries, Inc. in October 1945 and rose through the ranks to the positions of vice president and controller from 1961 to 1965 and then to the position of group vice president of the Agri-Products Group from 1965 to 1971 at which time he voluntarily retired because “it wasn’t fun going to work anymore.”

He then proceeded to devote the rest of his life enjoying the love and companionship of his beloved wife and best friend, Fay, who was his day brightener of all time. He served on the New Richmond City Council from 1958-1962 and on the Utility Commission in 1963 in addition to serving on numerous civic organizations during his lifetime. Donald was an avid reader and sometimes writer with many interests who would tell anyone willing to listen that he did not know the meaning of the word “boredom.” His family meant much to him and he was extremely proud of them.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon Monday, March 1, at the First Lutheran Church in New Richmond. Visitation will also be held on Monday from 10 a.m. - 12 noon at the church. Interment will be in the New Richmond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
