Audrey La Vonne Schmidt, 74, of New Richmond, formerly of Star Prairie and Hammond, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010 after battling lung cancer.
Audrey was born Sept. 2, 1935, in East Farmington, Wis., to Raymond and Alice (Johnson) Schmidt. She attended the one room schoolhouse in Boardman, Wis., and New Richmond High School. Later in life, she attained her GED and attended Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College in New Richmond.
Audrey was employed at various companies in the St. Croix Valley including St. Croix Manufacturing, Ringer St. Croix, United Refrigeration, and B. W. Harris. In her retirement, she continued working for the Kirby Company in New Richmond.
Audrey had a deeply-held love for horses and was a member of the St. Croix Saddle Club in the 1960s. Later in life, she collected Breyer horses. She also had a fascination for the Old West and anything relating to the cowboy lifestyle. Her heroes were Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. She enjoyed country music and was a huge fan of Marty Robbins and George Strait. She was a lifelong baseball fan and followed the St. Paul Saints in the 1950s and the Minnesota Twins after their arrival in Minnesota. She was an avid reader, with Stephen King and John Sanford being her favorite authors. Audrey was also a horror movie fanatic, with the Halloween and Friday the 13th series being her favorites.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Alice Schmidt.
She is survived by her son, Troy Schmidt of New Richmond; sister, Ramona (Armond) Severson of Minong, Wis.; niece, Sandra (Jim) Thompson of New Richmond; nephews, Glenn Red (Valerie) Severson, New Richmond, Ron (Shirley) Severson of Trego, Wis., and Gary (Cathy) Severson of Somerset; and special great-great-niece, Rylee Thompson of Amery. She is further survived by many other nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.
Services for Audrey will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin, Wis. Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Memorials preferred.
Services are in the care of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home and Countryside Crematory, Baldwin.
