A Japanese food industry magazine will feature Family Fresh Market in one of its upcoming editions.
Yakushin magazine sent several representatives to New Richmond on Sunday, May 2, to tour the newly remodeled store, take pictures and gather information for a future story.
Yakushin, which means “to make great strides,” publishes a monthly story on the best supermarkets in the United States and Japan. A total of 14 supermarkets were chosen from about 100 nominated stores for this year’s honor and New Richmond’s Family Fresh was one of them.
Yakushin magazine is published by the Ito Ham Corp., a $5 billion ham and processed meat company in Japan.
Kuhihro Irie, director of the Ito Ham Marketing Institute, and Noriaki Shintani, director of advertising for Ito Ham, were the two company officials who made the trip to New Richmond. They spent several hours walking around the store, asking questions about how the local store was set up and sampling deli items that have been popular.
According to New Richmond Family Fresh Market Manager Scot Destasio, the visit went well.
Destasio said the local store and its employees were honored to have been chosen by Ito Ham as a good example of a successful supermarket.
The visit by the magazine officials was one of 10 they expected to conduct at grocery stores during their three-week U.S. visit.
