Star Prairie blaze damages apartment

The New Richmond Fire Department responded to a structure fire in Star Prairie on Sunday afternoon.

The New Richmond Fire Department responded to a structure fire in Star Prairie on Sunday afternoon.

The outside wall of an apartment was significantly damaged by the blaze. The apartment was in the same building as a hair salon, located south of Friendly Bar in Star Prairie.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Jim Olien, the investigation continues into the cause of the blaze.

The department was on the scene for about an hour and a half. Crews had to tear off the metal wall of the apartment to ensure that the fire was extinguished.

There was some smoke damage on the inside of the building as well, Olien noted.

“But it could have been a whole lot worse,” Olien said.

The New Richmond Ambulance and Rescue Service, Star Prairie First Responders and St. Croix County Sheriff’s office also responded to the scene.
