Justice Harvieux will be New Richmond’s lone player competing in the WIAA Division 1 sectional tennis tournament in Wausau this Wednesday.

Harvieux was the fourth seed in the one singles flight at the Eau Claire North Division 1 subsectional tournament on Monday. Harvieux defeated his opponent from Menomonie 6-0, 6-2 to earn his place in the sectional meet.

At the sectional Harvieux will draw the top seed from the opposing subsectional. That will be Wausau East’s Brian Miles, who has a 16-2 record. Harvieux goes in with an 11-10 mark this season. The winner of the opening match at sectionals qualifies for the state meet, the loser goes home.

Harvieux’s match against Menomonie was tied 2-2 in the first set.

“Then Justice asserted himself,” said Tiger coach Mike Montello, as Harvieux didn’t give up another game.

The only other win for the Tigers in the subsectional came at four singles. Charlie Gartner was seeded third and defeated Eau Claire North 6-4, 6-4 in the first round. Gartner then had to face Hudson, dropping that match by a 6-4, 6-3 score.

Tiger senior Ben Chilsen lost to the two seed from Superior in the two singles flight. Cody Chouinard lost to Menomonie in his three singles match 6-3, 6-1.

All three Tiger doubles teams drew the second seed in their flight. The one doubles team of Drew Jensen and Jorden Aufderhar fell to Eau Claire North 6-0, 6-1. The two doubles team of Patrick Meath and Charlie Kleiner lost to Eau Claire North 6-1, 6-0. The three doubles team of Dylan Zdroik and Buck O’Flanagan put up a good fight early. They lost the opening set to Hudson 7-5 but dropped the second set 6-0.
