St. Croix County Emergency Management officials are urging flood victims to report damage related to the recent storms and to take important health and safety precautions.
St. Croix County Emergency Management officials are urging flood victims to report damage related to the recent storms and to take important health and safety precautions.
"The full impact of the flood is still being determined," said Casey Swetlik, director of Emergency Support Services. "Citizens should know that numerous agencies are working together to provide support for those affected."
The county has set up a flood hotline for victims. County residents are being encouraged to call and report any damage or issues at 888-305-3555.
Damage assessments are underway from the heavy rains and flooding from early Wednesday morning. More than 50 roads were affected by the flooidng and everyone is urged to follow posted detours and not pass any barricades, Swetlik said.
A flood resource center has been established at www.co.saint-croix.wi.us/floodinfo and includes safety checklists, resources and flood news updates.
Health and safety priorities include:
• Electrical, natural gas, heating and cooling systems should be checked by a licensed professional for any systems affected by flood waters.
• Do not drink water from private wells where the well casing was affected by flood water. Treat the water system and then test it before using it for drinking.
• Free water tests for persons in the flood areas are available at the Land and Water Conservation Office in the Ag Center, 1960 Eighth Ave., Baldwin. -- across from Anderson Ford. Land and Water Conservation's phone number is 715-684-2874, ext. 3.
• Mold growth is common in buildings affected by flood waters. Mold testing is generally not necessary. If you see it and/or smell it, you have a mold problem. For complete mold cleaning guidelines, visit the county's flood resource center.
