Miss Star Prairie candidates vie for 2010 title

Seven young women are vying for the title of Miss Star Prairie during this weekend’s Ox Cart Days celebration.

Seven young women are vying for the title of Miss Star Prairie during this weekend’s Ox Cart Days celebration.

Following is a short biographical sketch about each of the candidates.

Rylie Berger, sponsored by Fonda’s Bar and Grill is 16 years old and a junior at New Richmond High School. Her parents are Rob and Patty Berger. Her siblings are Blake and Noah.

Career ambition: I would like to major in dance and business management.

College Choice: University of Minnesota or the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

High school honors, clubs, activities: Honor Roll, all-state and all-american dancer, high school mentor, dance team member and orchestra.

Hobbies, sports, talents: Dance, softball, 4-H, music, photography, swimming, spending time with friends and family.

Future plans: Graduate from high school and attend college. I would like to own my own dance studio someday and raise a family.

Favorite TV show: “Pretty Little Liars” and “Fresh Prince of Bel Aire.”

Favorite recording star: Carrie Underwood.

Favorite sports star: My brother, Blake Berger.

In one sentence, why are you interested in running for Miss Star Prairie? I was born and raised in Star Prairie and I think it would be a fun experience to represent and share my hometown that I love.

Eden Burke, sponsored by Greaton’s Designing Jewelers, is 15 years old and a junior at New Richmond High School. Her parents are Cathy and Eric Burke. Her siblings are Garrett, Alannah, Mason and Miles.

Career ambition: To be an Irish dancer/teacher and a chronic pain physical therapist.

College choice: College of St. Catherine.

High school honors, clubs, activities: Academic merit for the years 2008-09 and 2009-10.

Hobbies, sports, talents: Irish dancing, reading, band and hanging out with friends.

Future plans: To graduate from high school, go to college in the Twin Cities so that I can stay close to my dance and get my degree for chronic pain physical therapy. When I have learned enough about my Irish dance, I will travel to Ireland and take the tests required to receive my degree in Irish dance. Then I will come back, finish any school that I have left and be a chronic pain physical therapist and an Irish dancer/teacher.

Favorite recording star: Taylor Swift.

Favorite sports star: Joe Mauer.

In one sentence, why are you interested in running for Miss Star Prairie? I am interested in running for Miss Star Prairie because I think it would be a really good opportunity for me to be a positive example and have fun at the same time.

Kaley Lestrud, sponsored by Quality Stone Works, is 16 years old and a junior at New Richmond High School. Her parents are Nancy and Troy Lestrud. Her siblings are Jenna and Ryan.

Career ambition: Elementary school teacher

College Choice: University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

High school honors, clubs, activities: FEA, tennis, helping my mom with her confirmation group and working with my church youth group mission projects.

Hobbies, sports, talents: Watching Twins games with my family, loom knitting with my mom, scrapbooking and bike riding.

Future plans: I plan to teach in the New Richmond area and give back to the community that gave me so much.

Favorite TV show: “Grey’s Anatomy.”

Favorite recording star: Taylor Swift.

Favorite sports star: Justin Morneau.

In one sentence, why are you interested in running for Miss Star Prairie? To expand my leadership skills, help the community and spend time with friends.

Ricci Myer, sponsored by JJ’s Outpost Bar & Grill, is 17 years old and a senior at New Richmond High School. Her parents are Cari and Banner Myer. Her sibling is Morgan.

Career ambition: Correctional officer.

College Choice: Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College.

High school honors, clubs, activities: 4-H, Arive Alive.

Hobbies, sports, talents: Volleyball, hunting, camping, fishing, swimming, friends, archery league.

Future plans: Graduate from high school in the spring, and go to WITC in the fall for a degree in correctional officer.

Favorite TV show: “Bones.”

Favorite recording star: Eminem.

Favorite sports star: Joe Mauer.

In one sentence, why are you interested in running for Miss Star Prairie? I’ve been interested in running for Miss Star Prairie to have fun and follow in my mom’s and grandma’s footsteps, who were both crowned Miss New Richmond.

Lila Newville, sponsored by Star Prairie Barber Shop, is 15 years old and a junior at Osceola High School. Her parents are Julie and Dean Newville. Her siblings are Dena, Ann and Chris.

Career ambition: Artist or fashion designer.

College choice: Savanah College of Art and Design, Savanah, Ga.

High school honors, clubs, activities: Bowl Club, French, FCCLA and decorating for the Winter Carnival dance.

Hobbies, sports, talents: Art, dance, reading, fashion design, shopping, youth group, swimming, talking, watch movies and cook.

Future plans: Graduate from high school, and go to a four-year college, specifically Savanah College of Art and Design. Earn a bachelor’s degree in fine arts or fashion design and pursue one as a career.

Favorite TV show: “America’s Next Top Model.”

Favorite recording star: Superchick.

Favorite sports star: Kristi Yamaguchi.

In one sentence, why are you interested in running for Miss Star Prairie? To meet new friends and to have fun.

Tayler Parfitt, sponsored by Kirk’s Collision, is 16 years old and a senior at New Richmond High School. Her mom is Deborah Parfitt.

Career ambition: Physical therapy, sports medicine

College choice: Undecided.

High school honors, clubs, activities: Honor Roll each semester, SPARK, STS, mentor.

Hobbies, sports, talents: Dance at Short Dance, going to be 11th year, danced on high school dance team freshmen year, helped assist dance.

Future plans: Going to college and becoming a physical therapist working with dancers.

Favorite TV show: “CSI Miami.”

Favorite recording star: Jason Aldean.

Favorite sports star: Joe Mauer.

In one sentence, why are you interested in running for Miss Star Prairie? I’m interested in running for Miss Star I because I think it’d be a fun opportunity to bond with other girls and just to go through the experience of meeting new people in the same way.

Breanna Schwan, sponsored by Friendly Bar and Grill, is 17 years old and a senior at New Richmond High School. Her parents are Ann Roettger and Tom Anderson. Her siblings are Ronald, Andrew, Chad, Sara and Jennifer.

Career ambition: Kindergarten teacher or Air Force.

College choice: Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College.

High school honors, clubs, activities: Arive Alive and Leos Club.

Hobbies, sports, talents: My hobbies include spending time with my family and friends. I also like running, playing volleyball, water fights, playing with my niece and nephews, helping anyone when they need it, spending time with the Leos and volunteering, wrestling with my brothers, and walking around town aimlessly.

Future plans: My future plans are still undecided. I would either like to go into the Air Force or attend Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College and enroll in their early childhood education program.

Favorite TV show: “Secret Life of the American Teenager.”

Favorite recording star: Kenny Chesney.

Favorite sports star: Ryan Braun.

In one sentence, why are you interested in running for Miss Star Prairie? I am interested in running for the title of Miss Star Prairie because I would like to meet new people, represent my town in a positive way and have fun doing everything I did when I was Little Miss Star Prairie.
