Fire damages New Richmond house

An afternoon home fire shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, seriously damaged a structure at 1769 George Norman Drive, near the New Richmond Golf Club.

An afternoon home fire at 4:17 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, damaged a structure at 1769 George Norman Drive, near the New Richmond Golf Club. The home's owner is Jim Thorpe.

The New Richmond Fire Department, New Richmond Police and the New Richmond Area Ambulance and Rescue Service responded to the scene and had the blaze knocked down within about 30 minutes. They were on the scene for about three hours.

The fire started on the exterior of the home, according to Fire Chief Jim VanderWyst. Some discarded rags caught fire and the blaze spread quickly.
