Communities say thanks to veterans

A variety of Veterans Day ceremonies were conducted across the area on Thursday, Nov. 11.

The American Legion Post #80 held its annual ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Legion Hall in New Richmond. A good crowd was on hand for the gathering.

Mayor Fred Horne was on hand to thank the vets and family members in attendance. State Sen. Sheila Harsdorf (R-River Falls) and State Rep. John Murtha (R-Baldwin) also attended and thanked the veterans for their service.

First Sgt. Anthony Zimmerman with Company B, 1-128th Infantry National Guard unit in New Richmond spoke about his unit's previous deployments in Iraq.

He thanked the community for supporting the local troops, and allowing him to lead Company B for many years.

The ceremony concluded with a gun volley outside the Legion Hall. A lunch was also served.

St. Mary's School in New Richmond also held a Veterans Day program at 9 a.m.

New Richmond Middle School planned it's ceremony for Friday morning.

Other events were conducted in Hammond, Roberts and Somerset during the day on Thursday.
