Police responded to reports of a break in at Ava’s Restaurant, 850 N. Knowles Ave., Wednesday morning.
During the night, someone had gained entry to the restaurant by forcing open the back door, said Police Chief Mark Samelstad.
Once inside, thieves took the safe, digital video recorder (used as part of the security system) and an undisclosed amount of money from the registers, Samelstad said.
He would not comment on whether there are any suspects, saying the case will be handed over to the detectives.
