Old Gem troupe presents ‘Secret Garden’

Frances Hodgson Burnett’s classic novel, “Secret Garden” will be brought to life on the Old Gem stage for the holidays.

The show plays for the public on Friday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 19, at 2 p.m.

Set in 1911, “Secret Garden” tells the story of Mary Lennox, a spoiled and willful girl, who is sent to live with her uncle when her parents die of cholera in India. At her uncle’s cold and mysterious English manor, Mary meets her invalid cousin and discovers a hidden garden. Together the children learn to open their hearts to selflessness and find happiness as a family. The show captures the hearts and imaginations of audiences of all ages.

“Secret Garden” is part of the Old Gem Theater’s Youth Season which includes shows that are performed for schools from all around Minnesota and Wisconsin throughout the school year. The actors are student members of the Old Gem Young Performers Ensemble and adult members of the Old Gem Professional Acting Company.

Old Gem Artistic Director Kathy Welch directs the show. Members of the Old Gem Young Performers Ensemble include: Katelyn Juvrud of Osceola; Melanie Greeley, Megan Prax, Brianna Lindahl and Jacob Lindahl of Somerset; Bryanna Sengbusch, Alaina Barthman and Jackson Dalluhn of Hudson; Isaac Olson, Chloe Marrier, Abby Shortell, William Chrisco, Ravyn Swanson, Elizabeth Offerosky and Sean Pazdera, all of New Richmond.

Old Gem Professional Acting Company members include: Tom Monn of Woodbury and Katherine Engel of St Paul.
