Father George Votruba, 81, of Rice Lake, Wis., died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at Our House Assisted Living.

He was born April 18, 1929, in Haugen, Wis., to George and Martha (Hruska) Votruba.
George completed his final two years of high school and his first two years of college at St. Procopius in Lyle, Ill. He graduated from St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee and received the sacrament of Holy Orders in 1954. Father George served parishes in Rhinelander, Sheldon, Superior, Somerset, Three Lakes, and Rice Lake.
He is survived by sisters, Ruth (Carl) Brandt of Concord, Calif., Mary Ann Charron of Rice Lake, Lorraine (Hubert) Livingston of Minnetonka, Minn., Fran Votruba of Walnut Creek, Calif., Kathy (John) Levock of Arlington, Va.; brothers Ed (Mary Jo) Votruba of Lexington, Ky., Chuck (Carole) Votruba of Somerset, Tom (Sue) Votruba of Rice Lake; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Bernard, Stephen, and Paul, and a nephew, Stephen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at St. Joseph Catholic Church - Rice Lake, with Bishop Peter Christensen and Father James Powers officiating. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery - Haugen. Pallbearers are Bruce Charron, Dan Charron, Roger Charron, Dave Votruba, Chris Votruba, Dave Charron. Visitation will be held from 2-7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church - Rice Lake, with a scripture service and rosary at 7:30, and visitation for 1 hour prior to Mass on Friday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Catholic school of your choice.
