Eight members of the New Richmond Area Tiger Sharks swam in the Minnesota State Youth Swim Meet at the Rochester Recreational Center from March 11-13.
Brady Bennett had 12 qualifying events, but could only compete in nine events. He finished in eighth place for the 50-hard buttlerfly with a zone time of 28.94. He also came in eighth for the 100-hard butterfly with a time of 1:04.63.
Caleb Eastep qualified for four events. He finished in 21st place for the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 46.95 and 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:26.12. He placed 12th for the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 39.09.
Cole Eastep qualified for one event in which he finished 40th place.
Two relay teams qualified to swim at state. The 11-12-year-old team was Bennett, Josh Falkenhagen, Max Greeley and Windham Anez. They swam three races and finished in 21st place for the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:41.18, 22nd place for the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:01.80 and the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:19.55.
The 10-and-under relay team was Cole Eastep, Caleb Eastep, Josh Boyd and Caleb Falkenhagen. They swam two races, coming in 25th place for the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:52.14 and taking 28th place for the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:28.31.
The co-head coaches for the New Richmond Area Tiger Sharks are Melissa Schulze and Ryan Sherley.
The New Richmond Area Tiger Sharks is a swim team designed to focus on the four major competitive strokes: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. The Tiger Shark Swim Team works to develop skills, techniques and proper training enabling all swimmers to compete. The Tiger Sharks believe in working toward developing positive attitudes, responsibility, leadership, goal setting and self-discipline. The member cities for swim team include Amery, Deer Park, Dresser, Houlton, New Richmond, Roberts, Somerset and Star Prairie.
Registration materials for current swimmers should be available and online by March 25 for the summer season.
Registration for new swimmers will be held as follows at The Centre in New Richmond:
Monday, April 4, 7-8 p.m. for Tiger Sharks Information Night;
Monday, April 11, 7-8 p.m. for Tiger Shark New Swimmer Registration.
