Curtis W. Berget, age 80, of New Richmond, died on Monday, July 11, 2011, at the Deerfield Gables in New Richmond.

Curtis W. Berget, age 80, of New Richmond, died on Monday, July 11, 2011, at the Deerfield Gables in New Richmond.

He was born the son of Edwin and Helga (Hanson) Berget on March 7, 1931, in New Richmond. Curtis graduated from New Richmond High School in 1949. He served in the Army during the Korean War as a cryptanalyst. Curtis worked on grain farms in Montana before serving in the army and after his return from service. He eventually moved back to New Richmond and worked at St. Croix Press until retiring.

He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 80. He will be remembered for his guitar playing, midnight pizzas, and his quiet ways. Curtis was proud, honorable, generous to a fault, and couldn't pass up a sugar cookie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Helga Berget; siblings, Dorothy Holland, Elaine Johnson, Mildred Olson, Harvey Berget, Pearly "Dick" Berget, LeMoyne Berget, Harold Berget, and Minnerd Berget.

He is survived by brothers, F. DeJerome Berget of New Richmond and Charles (Elsie) Berget of Milwaukee; sister-in-law, Shirley Berget of New Richmond; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at Bakken-Young's Beebe Chapel in New Richmond. Visitation will also be on Sunday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery in Star Prairie. Pallbearers are Jerry Berget, Scott Berget, Brad Berget, Brian Berget, John Neuman, and Gary Berget. Memorials may be directed to the American Legion Post 80 or Forty and Eight.
