Plans develop for three Senate District 10 candidate forums
With less than three weeks until the 10th Senate District recall election, details are being worked out on three forums that will allow voters to compare and contrast incumbent Sen. Sheila Harsdorf, a Republican, with her Democratic challenger, Ellsworth teacher Shelly Moore.
With less than three weeks until the 10th Senate District recall election, details are being worked out on three forums that will allow voters to compare and contrast incumbent Sen. Sheila Harsdorf, a Republican, with her Democratic challenger, Ellsworth teacher Shelly Moore.
Moore’s press secretary, Gillian Morris, announced Friday that Moore has accepted debates with Harsdorf, to be hosted by the River Falls Chamber of Commerce, Hudson Patch and Wisconsin Public Radio.
A fourth forum has been proposed by members of the American Association of University Women. Harsdorf has not agreed to participate in that debate.
Hudson forum
The first session, at 7:30 p.m., Monday, July 25, will be hosted by Hudson Patch in the Public Access Cable studio in Hudson.
River Falls forum
The second meeting between the candidates will be a breakfast session hosted by the River Falls Chamber of Commerce at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, July 28, in the University Center Ballroom at UW-River Falls. Dr. Del Permann, interim pastor at Roberts United Church of Christ, will moderate.
Admission for that forum is $15, which includes a buffet breakfast. Breakfast will be available beginning at 7 a.m. with the forum starting at 7:30.
Free parking is available in Lot Q. Then follow the signs to the University Center.
The format for the Chamber forum will include prepared questions. Written questions will be accepted from the audience as time permits. Questions to be asked of the candidates can be submitted in advance to Chamber CEO Rosanne Bump at rosanne@rfcha mber.com.
Bump said the Chamber holds Business Breakfasts each quarter, and they are open to members and the general public.
This forum, one of the quarterly breakfasts, is also open to the public. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited and is available on a first-come basis. The deadline to register is 4 p.m. Monday, July 25. Pre-payment is required.
For more information or to register, visit www.rfcha mber.com or visit the Chamber at 214 N. Main St., River Falls.
Rivertown Newspaper Group plans to provide a live web-cast of that forum on its newspaper websites.
Public Radio forum
Rich Kremer from Wisconsin Public Radio station WHWC-FM in Eau Claire will host Harsdorf and Moore in-studio at Eau Claire at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4. That meeting would constitute the third meeting between the two.
Organizers said AAUW is planning a forum at 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 27, at the River Falls High School auditorium, but Harsdorf has not agreed to participate in that event.
St. Croix County Republican Party Chairman Jesse Garza said the AAUW forum is being organized by two Shelly Moore supporters, and he questions the impartiality of the event.
