Young women in New Richmond have reason to celebrate – Maurices, an upscale clothing store for women and girls, opened its doors last week.

Preparations for the new store began in 2010 when the building plans were approved at an Economic Development Commission meeting. Since then, plans have been moving right along.

The new store, 1495 Hamilton Ave., just across from Wal-Mart on Richmond Way, hosted a ribbon cutting with the Chamber of Commerce on July 14.

According to its website, “Maurices is the leading small town specialty store for the savvy, fashion-conscious girl with a 20-something attitude.”

The store claims to carry the trendiest looks, with no attention to “seasons.”

“Customers love our fashion attitude. Styles at Maurices don’t just change out seasonally,” said Andrea Trapp, store manager. “We get new things as often as bi-weekly if trends are changing mid-season. People know they can count on Maurices to have the most up-to-date looks at prices that won’t break the bank.”

The New Richmond store plans to host a grand opening sale. Customers can register to win one of four $100 shopping sprees through Aug. 14.

Offering sizes 1-24, the roughly 5,000-square-foot store carries clothing designed for any need, including denim, tees, hoodies, pants, skirts, dresses, tops, shoes, boots and accessories. The store will feature exclusive Maurices brands of Studio Y and Wear @ Work, plus some of the best-known brands in denim, including Silver.

“Our associates love getting to know customers and becoming their ‘personal shoppers.’ They’ll be able to stop by the store and say ‘I need a new pair of jeans,’ or ‘What can I wear to a special party?’ and we’ll help them find the perfect fit,” said Trapp. “Plus, we have accessories ranging from delicate to bold that make outfits extremely versatile, which means you’ll get a lot of fashion mileage for your money.”

Maurices stores are located in 44 states, with 43 stores currently in Wisconsin. The New Richmond location is one of 50 stores that will open nationwide this year.

While Maurices is a national force on the fashion scene, it claims to be a community-based retailer.

Established in 1931 by E. Maurice Labovitz, Maurices’ first store was in Duluth, Minn., where corporate headquarters are currently located. The company is now owned by Dress Barn Inc.

The local store is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For store information and to shop online, visit ma urices.com or call 715-246-0323.
