When Mylan Erickson and Cyndi Kastens bought Fatt Matt’s Bar and Grill, (for many years known at the Red Rooster) they knew exactly what they wanted to do with it – renovate it.

And renovate it they did.

Now known as Roosters Roadhouse, the facility has undergone a complete renovation since it was purchased in April.

“It’s pretty different than what it was,” said Erickson.

The renovations – which range from a redone ceiling, floor, bar, windows and bathrooms – have gotten loads of positive feedback, they said.

Roosters Roadhouse, 1767 County Road T, features the original Red Rooster sculpture on the roof, a Friday Fish Fry and starting Sept. 21st Old Tyme music on Wednesdays from 2-5 p.m.

The metal rooster has gotten a lot of positive feedback.

“It’s iconic,” Kastens said. “You used to be able to see it from 64 at night.”

Another big change is that the business is now open daily at 11 a.m.

“It’s been a challenge, but we’re working to get the word out that we’re open during the day,” Kastens said. “People are used to it being open only at night.”

To comply with the state’s smoking laws, Roosters Roadhouse also features a smoking room with access to the deck. A small patio was also added to the back of the building for those who want to spend time outside.

Kastens and Erickson aren’t new to the bar business. The couple used to own Boardman Bypass, they said.

“We sold it, but we missed the business, so we started looking for another – one we both thought had good promise,” Kastens said.

That’s where Fatt Matt’s comes in.

Kastens is originally from New Richmond, and the couple lives near Boardman now, she said.

“The newest part for us is the food,” Kastens said.

The bar and grill’s full menu includes appetizers, burgers, wraps and daily specials – including the Friday Fish Frys.

Daily lunch specials, along with pizzas and other lunch foods, will be available before the kitchen opens for its full service.

The facility is available for banquets, birthday parties, weddings, class reunions and benefits, Kastens said. In fact, it’s already seen much success in terms of special events.

“We’re booking up quickly for parties on Saturdays,” she said.

The couple also plans to host a few specialty events. For example, on Sept. 14 Roosters Roadhouse will host Wild Women on Wine. The event will feature a wine tasting, cheese tasting and booths from several vendors geared toward women.

Kastens said she hopes to have more wine specific events and will have wine specials every Wednesday, but those details are still being worked out.

The bar is also hosting dart and pool leagues, along with an indoor bean bag league and volleyball in the spring. Tuesdays will play host to Texas Hold’em beginning in October.

Roosters Roadhouse’s hours are 11 a.m.- 2 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m.-2:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. The kitchen opens with a full service menu at 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and at noon on Friday, Saturday & Sunday.

A grand opening celebration was planned for Saturday, Sept. 17, featuring local talent Steve Mireau from 2-5 p.m. and the Fifty Fifty Band from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
