Family Fresh Market of New Richmond won first place based on the scoring of three judges.
“Each of the contestants brought their A-game this year, which made the scoring very close. Only a handful of points separated most of the competitors, but Family Fresh was the undisputed winner,” said Larry Frye, one of the judges.
Brady’s Brewhouse won the People’s Choice Award, awarded to the contestant that received the most votes from the public at large. Brady’s Brewhouse edged out Family Fresh by only five votes out of several hundred cast.
The other contestants included the Willow River Saloon (Burkhardt), Seasons Tavern (North Hudson), Lindyspings (Hudson), LocoVores BBQ (Stillwater) and J.W. Kaladi’s (Hudson).
The contestants generously donated their time and food at the annual Lions Club fundraiser. Most contestants started slow cooking their ribs near the break of dawn, even though customers did not begin to arrive until 11 a.m. The Lions Club estimated the Ribfest contestants served several hundred people.
“We believe attendance increased by nearly 50 percent from last year. The money raised goes back to the community through scholarships and humanitarian needs,” said Lyle Fridlund, a Lions Club member and organizer of the 2011 Ribfest.
