Get a taste of the vine or of the microbrewery at the third annual “Taste of the Vineyards” Wine and Beer Tasting Event for Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College-New Richmond scholarships.
The event is set for Thursday, Oct. 6, from 5-8 p.m. at Kovaleskis’ Willow Ridge Gardens, New Richmond. Participants may sample a variety of wines and locally brewed beer, while they enjoy hors d’oeuvres and live music, and bid in a silent auction. All proceeds go toward scholarships for students at the WITC-New Richmond campus.
This year the silent auction takes a new twist and focuses on experiences, rather than items. A few of the experiences include a home-cooked gourmet Italian dinner for six, a hot-air balloon ride, Spanish lessons, a week’s stay at a fishing cabin, massage and dinner combination and more.
“These days the thrill of a half-day of rock-climbing with an expert or a week’s stay at a cabin to fish on the ‘walleye capital of Wisconsin’ Long Lake creates a lasting memory,” says Natalie Landgreen, WITC college advancement associate. “In fact, last year’s Italian dinner garnered an extra $100 for scholarships because the people enjoyed it so much. We want people to remember all proceeds go toward scholarships for students on our WITC-New Richmond campus.”
Live music is provided by Sam Twain Salter (guitar), John Pisa (fiddle) and Charlie Uehlin (bass), and nearly all the hors d’oeuvres are donated by area businesses and individuals. Though last year’s weather cooperated, Landgreen says a large tent will add covered outdoor space in addition to the barn, in case of rainy weather.
“This year our students are in greater need than ever for scholarship dollars,” Landgreen says. “We hope people will turn out for this event to support the local college and have a great time in the process.”
Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door and are available at the WITC Info Desk or by calling 715-246-6561, ext. 4217.
