Minnesota Vikings’ Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton blasted Brett Favre in a recent Atlanta radio interview.

Tarkenton, who took the Vikings to three Super Bowls in the 1970s, said it’s “despicable” what Favre put the Packers through last year by retiring, and then ripping the team for not letting him back after Green Bay was loyal to him for 16 years.

Tarkenton said the Packers had to move on, and it’s about the team and not about the individual.

Tarkenton also said “We have glorified the Brett Favres of the world so much, they think it’s about them.”

He said the Favre, 39, “bombed” with the New York Jets last year while dressing apart from the team.

Tarkenton said playing quarterback is all about having good relationships with teammates and coaches and “How can you do that if you show up on game day, and haven’t put the time in? And now, he’s trying to do it again in Minnesota.

If Minnesota bites, God bless them.” Tarkenton said he hoped Favre joins them so “he can fail.”

The Vikings’ legend also criticized Favre’s play on the field, saying he’s made “more stupid plays than any great quarterback I’ve ever seen.”

He said Favre “blew” the 2007 NFC Championship Game loss to the New York Giants with the interception that allowed the Giants to come back and win.
