Rotary event seeks artists, culinary specialists

Planning for the seventh annual Art & Culinary Show, sponsored by the Rotary Club of New Richmond, is underway.

Planning for the seventh annual Art & Culinary Show, sponsored by the Rotary Club of New Richmond, is underway.

The date for this year’s fundraiser is Sunday, April 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. at R&D Banquet Hall in rural New Richmond, 1490 131st St.

Many of the popular features of the first six shows will return this year. This year’s theme is “Spring.”

There will be plenty of gourmet food samples, along with wine and spirit tasting.

Local chefs will be on hand for food preparation demonstrations, and live music will be provided throughout the event.

Several live and silent auctions, along with door prizes of artwork, will be conducted during the Art & Culinary Show.

The Rotary Club raised more than $11,000 during its event last year. Money raised benefits the STRIVE scholarship program and the Rotary youth exchange program, as well as other Rotary-sponsored programs in the community.

“We hope to continue to successfully raise more money each year because the needs of our community also continue to rise,” said Jo Wrich, a member of the Art & Culinary Show organizing committee. “We feel we have established a reputation for a quality event so that we have several past participating artists, chefs and guests express interest in being involved or invited again.”

The event highlights area culinary artists, chefs, artists and entertainers that fill the attendees’ senses (and bellies).

“We plan to have more than 15 restaurants and 15 artists on display,” Wrich said.

Deadline for applications for participating artists and culinary artists is Jan. 30. Contact Wrich at 715-243-3903 for more information or to apply.

“In times like these, when we are watching our spending, we want to promote local entertainment opportunities and local artists,” Wrich said. “When you compare our ticket price of $40 a ticket to a night out in the Twin Cities, it looks something like this: The cost of gas: $10. The cost of eating out at a gourmet restaurant: $25. The cost of ticket to a show or concert: $40. The cost of supporting your community and the Rotary scholarship programs: Almost priceless!”

Tickets for the event will be available beginning on March 5 from Rotary Club members, as well as at Ready Randy’s and The SPACE.
