Carol De Young of Countryside Plumbing & Heating, New Richmond, received the Distinguished Service Award from the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors – Wisconsin Association (PHCC-WI) at the association’s annual meeting Jan. 11 in Wisconsin Dells.
“Carol is a role model for service to an industry and an association,” said Jeffrey Beiriger, CAE, PHCC-WI’s executive director. “Her commitment to advance education and professionalism in the industry made her worthy of special recognition.”
De Young represents PHCC-WI District 10 as a member of the association’s board of directors. District 10 encompasses Barren, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Dunn, Pierce, Polk, St. Croix and Washburn counties. She is also a member of the State’s Plumbing Apprenticeship Advisory Committee.
“Carol has helped our association grow its membership,” said Dale Arndt, PHCC-WI board member and owner of Arndt & Son Plumbing, Brooklyn. “She promotes our association’s benefits - legislative representation, knowledge sharing, and networking at our annual convention - and she has taken the PHCC training program to teach the overhead allocation program to help other contractors excel.”
De Young has been involved in the family business since 1982, when she began keeping the books. As Countryside Plumbing grew in size, she became the full-time bookkeeper and acquired additional responsibilities such as showroom sales and fixture specs. She became a member of the PHCC board in 2009 and also is a member of the PHCC Auxiliary.
“Carol fits the model of the Distinguished Service Award to a tee,” said board member Jeff Kuhn, owner of S&K Pump & Plumbing Inc., Brookfield. “She never misses a meeting and when she cannot be there in person, she phones in so she’s always listening and adding something to the discussion. When we ask someone to take the lead on a project, she is there to do it. Whatever she’s working on, she does it well. We wish we had more like her.”
The PHCC Wisconsin Association is an organization dedicated to educating, advocating, and helping plumbing, heating & cooling contractors. It provides its members with representation on the Plumbing Advisory Code Council, Plumbers Council and Plumbing Apprenticeship Advisory Committee and advocates for regulations that promote public health and safety for consumers in Wisconsin through the licensing of qualified plumbers.
