UPDATE: Fire victim identities released

The Polk County Medical Examiner has released the identities of the two victims of the Town of Osceola house fire. They have been identified as Shelli R. Maier, 43, and her daughter, Makayla M. Corbin, 16. Both lived at 997 240th Street, Osceola, with Shelli Maier's father Larry Maier, 68.

On March 5 at 6:59 a.m. a 911 call was received for a house fire on 240th St., just south of Highway 35 in the Town of Osceola. The bodies of two victims were found later in the day.

The house was reported to be fully engulfed at the time of the morning call.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Larry Maier was able to get out of the house. He was transported to the Osceola Hospital be ambulance.

Two other individuals were in the residence at the time. They expired in the blaze and their bodies were later found.

Makayla Corbin attended Osceola High School. On Wednesday, students at that school wore purple and green, the favorite colors of the girl and her mother, to show their support for the family. Facebook messages of condolences and grief were posted throughout the day and evening.

The Dresser-Osceola-Garfield Fire Department reponded to the scene, as did the St. Croix Valley EMS and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

A state fire marshal was also at the scene.

The cause nor the origin of the fire has been determined.

The names of the homeowner and possible victims are not being released at this time.
