SMS students compete at music competition
More than 100 seventh and eighth grade students from Somerset Middle School participated in a Solo/Ensemble festival at St. Croix Falls Middle School on Feb. 16.
More than 100 seventh and eighth grade students from Somerset Middle School participated in a Solo/Ensemble festival at St. Croix Falls Middle School on Feb. 16.
Somerset had a total of 42 entries in the festival ranging from vocal and instrumental solos, duets, trios, and other small ensembles. The students represented Somerset’s music department very well, with a total of 25 events earning a rating of a “1,” 12 events earning a rating of a “2,” 1 event earning a rating of a “3,” and 4 events participating for “critique only.”
The best rating that an event can achieve is a “1.” There were also three entries that earned a perfect score. Ethan Lammers (eighth grade) for his vocal solo, Mackenzie Erickson (eighth grade) for her vocal solo, and a trio consisting of Mackenzie Erickson, Hannah Erickson, and Elsie Shartin-Folkert (all in eighth grade).
