The Old Gem Theater will be presenting “Seussical Jr.,” a musical based on the beloved books of Dr. Seuss, this spring for school groups on field trips and the general public.

“Seussical Jr.” is an abridged version of the Broadway hit “Seussical,” a fantastical musical extravaganza. The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFluff and Jojo the Who are brought to life, along with a host of other wild and colorful Seuss characters.

Young actors 8 years old and up interested in performing in the show may get involved by registering for the Old Gem Spring Acting Class. A large cast is needed for the play and this will be an opportunity for young actors who will get to share the stage with members of the Old Gem Professional Acting Company.

“We are delighted to be able to offer this opportunity to our students,” said Director Kathy Welch. “The show is a huge hit with kids and it offers a dynamic musical score and exhilarating dance numbers. This production will be a great experience for theater students whether they are interested in acting, singing, dance or all three.”

Classes and rehearsals will meet on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:10 to 6 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon starting on March 26. Tuition is $160.The show will be performed on select dates throughout May and June.

Performances for the general public will be on Saturday, May 12, at 10:30 a.m.; Sunday, May 13, at 2 p.m.; Saturday, May 19, at 10:30 a.m.; and Sunday, May 20, at 2 p.m.
