LETTER: Vote anti-incumbent in Hammond

To the Editor:
The Hammond Village Board just never ceases to amaze me with their bending and manipulation of the rules, ordinances and statues that they took an oath to uphold when they were sworn in as trustees.
This latest chapter in hiring and promotion of village employees is a prime example. One trustee, Erin McComb, was trying to do her job according to her oath to follow rules but she was attacked and over-ruled by Village Attorney Tim Scott and the other trustees.
Trustee McComb pointed out the rules the village has for hiring a new Waste Water Plant Operator, but because the village had not followed these rules in the past, Attorney Scott figured it was OK to not follow them again. I have yet to see in my life how continuing to do things wrong translates into doing things correctly. Two wrongs do not equal a right.
Let’s open up the hiring practices of the village and let’s get everything in the open. We, as voters, need to change this current Village board ASAP while we still have a village and before it’s bankrupt!
Vote anti-incumbent at the Tuesday, April 3, Hammond election. Vote for three of these four candidates: Brenda Monroe, Mary Rivard, Vince Trudell or Mark Benton.
John Rivard
