When Five Loaves Food and Clothing Center asked New Richmond High School for volunteers, the boys golf team was quick to answer the plea.

On March 22, 14 of the school’s golfers spent an afternoon at the clothing center and food shelf helping to move the winter clothing upstairs, bringing the spring/summer clothing down from storage, and clearing the food pantry’s shelves so a shelving unit could be moved.

Volunteers with Five Loaves said the golf team’s help saved the center’s regular volunteers hours of time.

“They shut the elevator off so all those clothes needed to be brought up and down the stairs,” said one volunteer.

At the food pantry, the boys cleared a shelving unit so that it could be moved. Later the boys re-stocked the shelf.

Volunteering isn’t something new to the golf team and is something the boys do together as a team-building exercise, said coach Jim Saliny.

“We have team dinners together, do other activities as a team. Most of these golfers will help out on April 14th with the spring cleanup that our Coaches Association puts on for the community,” he said.
