The Roberts Ribbon Reapers 4-H Club is sponsoring a huge indoor garage sale on Friday, April 20, and Saturday, April 21, to raise money for a Roberts family going through a difficult time.
On Saturday, March 17, Glen and Julie Nelson were struck by an oncoming vehicle while riding their motorcycle. Julie did not survive the accident. Glen is at Regions Hospital and has a long recovery ahead of him. They are the parents of Trevor and Collin Nelson, active members of the Roberts Ribbon Reapers 4-H Club.
This is the 10th year the 4-H Club has hosted the garage sale fundraiser. Last year money from the event went toward the new dairy barn at the St. Croix County Fairgrounds.
“We are always looking for ways to help our community. This year’s cause hits close to home,” said 4-H leader Cindy Schultz.
Schultz said the club members seem determined to raise a large sum of money for the Nelson family.
On average, the sale raises about $1,000, which is pretty good considering almost every item is marked at only 50 cents.
Not only is the sale for a good cause, but it’s also a good reason for people to clean out their closets and get rid of clothes and other items they no longer use, Schultz said.
“We call it true recycling,” Schultz said, since something one person no longer uses could be useful to someone else.
The community can help with the fundraiser by donating gently used items for the sale, volunteering at the sale or by purchasing items at the sale.
