New Richmond fire crews were called to the scene of a fire at The Centre early this morning after an electrical wire shorted out and caught fire.
Chief Jim VanderWyst said the temporary electrical wire was part of the construction scene at The Centre but was also attached to the existing building. After starting at 5:09 a.m., the fire traveled along the wire and filled The Centre’s gymnasium with smoke, he said.
“We got the fire out right away, but we had to wait around with fans and blow the gymnasium out,” VanderWyst said.
There was no damage to the building.
Crews were on scene for about an hour and a half. New Richmond Ambulance Service also respond to the scene.
