Clayton man dead after Hwy. 8 crash in Polk County
A fatal crash occurred at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, on Hwy. 8 in the town of Apple River in Polk County.
A fatal crash occurred at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, on Hwy. 8 in the town of Apple River in Polk County.
A westbound Dodge minivan, driven by Garrett V. Javner, 44, of rural Clayton, crossed into the path of an eastbound semi-tractor trailer, operated by Jacob Hoheisel, 32, of Avon, Minn.
Javner died at the scene. He was the lone occupant of his vehicle.
Following the collision, a secondary crash occurred when a westbound Toyota Camry, driven by Marlene Long, 55, of Turtle Lake, struck Javner’s disabled minivan.
Neither Hoheisel nor Long was injured. Both were alone in their respective vehicles.
Hwy. 8 traffic was detoured for several hours while emergency responders from the Amery Fire Department and Apple River Fire Department controlled the scene.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Javner was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The accident is being investigated by the Polk County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
