LETTER: Nursing home decision makes sense
Bravo to the Health and Human Services Board for voting to endorse downsizing the county’s nursing home. It’s a solid step toward putting the facility on a more efficient and financially sound course.
To the Editor:
Bravo to the Health and Human Services Board for voting to endorse downsizing the county’s nursing home. It’s a solid step toward putting the facility on a more efficient and financially sound course.
People need to careful of equating the voters’ support of the referendum to keep using tax dollars to subsidize the nursing home with a mandate to keep the facility at its current size. Indeed, if a county-operated nursing home is to survive over the long haul, it will need to be run very efficiently — which at this point certainly includes downsizing.
This is an emotionally charged issue, but everyone needs to take a deep breath and look at all sides of the issue with a clear head and common sense. The downsizing endorsement is a move in that direction.
