Somerset sending large group to state music

Talk about it

Nearly 80 Somerset High School band and choir students went to the District Solo and Ensemble Festival held at Osceola High School on April 3. Ten schools from the Upper St. Croix Valley Music Association participated in this festival. Students competed with solos, duets, trios, and many other types of vocal and instrumental ensembles, with many hoping to advance to the state level on May 5 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Somerset High School was represented very well at this festival. Somerset had a total of 38 vocal entries and 12 instrumental entries. Out of those events, 18 vocal entries and four instrumental entries earned a rating of a 1*, which advances them to the State festival. Somerset also took home three of the 12 “Best in Site Awards.” Each judge gives out one Best in Site award after they have judged all of their events throughout the day.

Winning best in site awards were Hannah Rosentreter for her vocal solo, a saxophone quartet consisting of Aric Vanasse, Emily Martell, Sadie Gilbertson, and Kim Lynner, and Somerset’s High School Show Choir – The Dynamics.
